The YE/ZB Radio Homing "Hayrake" System of the US Navy was used by the carrier task forces in WW2 to give the pilots a reliable means of navigating back to the carrier after long missions over the ocean. It consists of a transmitter on the carrier, transmitting a different Morse code letter in 12 directions from the carrier, so any aircraft can receive only one of these Morse letters at a given position, giving the informed pilot an indication as of where to head his aircraft in order to fly towards the carrier.
