The Warbird Navigator

  • Are you flying a warbird in a flight simulator game?
  • Are you curious about learning to navigate your warbird like in the old days - using Dead Reckoning in your simulator?
  • Are you motivated to invest some time in planning your sim flight before takeoff?
  • Are you brave enough to trust the method and accept the feeling of uncertainty during your flight, not knowing 100% where you are until you recognize the features of the next waypoint or landmark?
  • Are you sim-flying on a multiplayer server where GPS markers are turned off and you cannot see on the map where you are? Do you want to learn how to navigate your warbird under such conditions?

If you answered some or all of these questions with YES! then The Warbird Navigator might just be your place to go for all the ressources, methods and tools you need to learn the art of Dead Reckoning Navigation which the pilots used from the 1930s to the 1960s before the advent of GPS and similar satellite-navigation methods. You will be able to fly your aircraft in all the recreational flight simulators like MSFS 2020/2024, DCS World or the IL-2 Shturmovik series - without using the (GPS) map markers and other "cheat tools" that just were not available in World War 2 or the Korean War!

This site is gradually developing and currently very much under construction, but hopefully by the end of 2025 it should contain a basic spectrum of information, examples and tools to help you plan your next sim-flight! Stay tuned ...
